Description
Special high alloy hot work steel. Extreme retention of hardness, suitable for all applications where particular resistance to high temperature wear and melt of metal is required.
Applications
Extrusion tools for copper, copper alloys and steel, including special dies, die casting tools of all kind for brass, goosenecks and chambers for magnesium die casting, extrusion tools for steel. Nop water cooling.
Physical properties (average values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 215
Density [g/cm3]: 8.08
Soft Annealing
Heat to 760-840℃, cool slowly in furnace. Time is 4-6 hours. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 320.
Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 600-650℃, holding for 1-2 hours at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 1100-1150℃ followed by air, oil quenching or vacuum quenching. Hardness after quenching is about 52 HRC.
